Video Game Soundtracks

Music in video games tends to be overlooked on the surface. But once you hear it outside of the game and you feel that emotional trip it sends you on you know someone has done something right. Once you find the appreciation for video game music it changes the way games impress you. To pick a favorite would be ludicrous but I am going to name ones that when I hear the sound I am transported to a time alone in my room gripping a controller tightly hoping to anticipate what comes next.

Final Fantasy has the most amazing soundtrack to me and Mario at a close second. There isn't a note you could play from either of those franchises that doesn't make me nostalgic. But if I had to choose my favorite single game it would be Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

But the question remains, what is your favorite soundtrack? Or even favorite song from any video game? I'm looking forward to reading your responses.

    My favourite videogame OST, will be Battlefield 1942 or GoW, liked ZELDA OoT too :D

    Haha I read the title, and then instantly thought of the song of storms, only to see it at the bootom. Brings back memories <3

    Video game music is indeed underrated/overlooked. Many of songs are featured in SSBM, and I love playing it party because of that ^^

    The song of storms is my absolute favorite in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask! But if I had to pick, it would be... Shoot, I can't pick. I guess it'd be Mario. :) The normal theme.

    Great choice. When I first read that FF to you has the best soundtrack and Mario a close second I thought "Where's Zelda?" but there it is! :D

    Also, I'd argue that Super Mario has the best soundtrack. But that's just me. :P If you haven't yet, check out Mario Wii, it's awesome.

    I'm a musician so when I play games with an orchestral soundtrack or games with just amazing music, I get happy lol. I LOVE the Zeld am usic especially OoT! Great post made my day :)

    From Zelda, I like the song of healing from Majora Mask

    but my favorite be a chrono trigger one, the Chrono or frog theme are awesome to me

    Final Fantasy VII is by far my favourite VG soundtrack. The Metal Gear Solid games do a mean soundtrack too though.

    I know it's awfully recent, but the Halo soundtracks always get me. That main theme (and the sequels' remixes) are some of the greatest pieces of work I've ever heard.

    I agree 100%, It's really common where you show someone a song and they have no idea where it comes from even though they play that game A LOT.

    I loved the theme song from Cannon Fodder (Amiga version sounded better than the pc version). It was absolutely hillarious. Heck, I can still hear it :)
